Release Notes for Carousel
7.0.3
Bug 10282 | Interactive bulletins can now be uploaded using the Carousel user interface and will be hosted locally on the Carousel Server. It is important to note that only static files including HTML, CSS, and images are supported. All uploaded files are prohibited from executing on the server. Bug 10278 | Fixed an issue where the Carousel service would use excessive amount of memory when starting potentially causing poor performance or system hangs. The issue was the result of leaking images while validating media sizes during startup. The service now ensures the objects do not get leaked resulting in acceptable memory use. Bug 10279 | Fixed an issue where a bulletin would be moved outside of its group after editing. Bug 10277 | Fixed an issue where installer would crash when clicking finished. This bug was introduced by a change to the installer user interface to confirm if a user wants to exit the installer when an installation is in progress. When already complete, the exit action would trigger an infinite loop causing the installer to crash. The installer now exits normally. Bug 10293 | As of Carousel 7.0 the Carousel Player installer is provided in the Carousel user interface to make it easier to commission new players without needing to contact Tightrope Media Systems for download keys. A common problem was that the provided installer does not contain any of the dependencies required. To address this we now host all the dependencies on the Carousel Server, and the Carousel Player will download the dependencies from the server and install them automatically when first starting. Bug 10292 | Improved the experience when the installer must download some dependencies including firmware for BrightSign players. The installer now indicates what dependencies it is downloading and provides a progress indicator. Bug 10291 | Fixed a crash when running the Carousel installer on x86 systems due to scheduling an installer command that only is only present on x64 systems. Bug 10289 | Fixed an issue where the installer was ignoring arguments for selecting the different components that could be installed preventing the installer from doing silent installs. Bug 10288 | Fixed an issue where the Carousel installer could fail when installing for the first time. The error was due to a timing issue when creating new user accounts and then trying to set permissions using those accounts. If the accounts were not fully available, the install would fail then run correctly the second time. We now delay using the accounts to allow the operating system enough time to finish creating the accounts. Bug 10287 | Fixed several drop down lists where channels were sorted by an internal ID and not by the name of the channel. Bug 10286 | Fixed an issue where certain failed health checks would prevent the user interface from checking the system health in the future. The user interface now continues to poll for the system health and will remove the warning message if the issue is corrected. Bug 10285 | When an installation fails the Carousel installer will now update the failure message to indicate which dependency has failed as well as the error message provided by the failing dependency. Bug 10284 | Made several improvements to detecting and installing SQL Server dependency when installing Carousel Server. The installer now passes through installation status for SQL Server to provide a better experience when installing Carousel. Please note that the installer only supports installing SQL Server on x64 systems. If SQL Server is missing on x86 systems Carousel server installation will be disabled. Bug 10283 | Fixed an issue where configuration files that contain SQL Server connection strings and Active Directory membership configuration were incorrectly removed during an uninstall or upgrade. The installer now leaves these files in place. Additionally the installer makes a backup of these files during an upgrade. Bug 10295 | The Carousel user interface now periodically checks that it can still connect to the server and will indicate to the user when it is offline or the Carousel server cannot be reached. Bug 10294 | Fixed an issue where the installer would always attempt to run SQL migration scripts on the default SQL server instead of respecting the actual system configuration for SQL. The installer now loads the system's SQL connection string configuration and runs the SQL migration scripts on the configured SQL server. Bug 10299 | This release makes available a new offline version of the installer that has all required dependencies within two large downloads. The Carousel 7 portion of the installer allows installing Carousel Server without an internet connection. A separate SQL Server.offline file is also required if installing server on a system without SQL server already installed. The new offline installer has proven to work well for upgrades but there are known issues when installing on a new system. Please see the Carousel 7 Installer Known Issues Knowledge Base: http://kb.trms.com/article/known-issues-with-carousel-7-installer-295.html

Release Notes for Carousel
7.0.2
Bug 10248 | Carousel will now properly rotate media and bulletins based on the EXIF data contained in the image. Bug 10247 | Fixed an issue where a user's last zone selection was not being saved properly causing the user to always be redirected to a crawl zone when logging in. Carousel will now remember the last zone a user was working on and direct the user to that zone when logging in. Bug 10246 | Fixed an issue where the uploader for seamless backgrounds would display the current zone's dimensions instead of the channel's dimensions. The uploader now displays the channel's dimensions. Bug 10245 | Fixed an issue where RSS and Cablecast bulletins with not content would be displayed in the active section of manage bulletins even though they were not active on the zone. Bulletins with no content are now displayed in the Upcoming section of manage bulletins. Bug 10244 | Fixed an issue where saving a template in a zone with no backgrounds would fail. Templates will now use a generic solid background generated by the server if the zone contains no backgrounds. Bug 10243 | Improved the experience when the browser session expires. Previously, a generic error message would be displayed to the user making it unclear what the problem was. Now the user will be specifically alerted when there login is expired and will be given the option to navigate to the login page. Bug 10249 | Fixed an issue where Carousel would consider deleted bulletins when determining if a zone was in alert mode. This could cause a zone to be marked as in alert mode incorrectly. Now only non-deleted bulletins are considered when determining alert mode. Bug 10252 | Fixed an issue where the clone tool would incorrectly try to extract media to the same location multiple times causing an error when trying to import the channel. The clone tool now correctly determines conflicts and extracts the media to the correct path. Bug 10251 | Fixed an issue where the Carousel Renderer would delete the preview image for a bulletin when rendering it. This would cause the bulletin to appear broken until it was finished rendering. For bulletins with a large number of pages, this could take a noticeable amount of time. Carousel now updates the preview at the end of the render preventing a broken image. Bug 10253 | Fixed an issue where the user interface would incorrectly display a success message when an upload failed due to being larger than the servers maximum file upload size. The user interface now displays an error message informing the user that the file was too large. Bug 10257 | Fixed an issue where it was impossible to setup a custom proxy server for Carousel. The user interface incorrectly referred to a custom proxy as a manual proxy resulting in an error when trying to save the configuration. The user interface now correctly saves custom proxy configurations. Bug 10255 | Fixed an issue where database objects such as stored procedures could be added to the wrong schema depending on the user account that ran the migration script. This would prevent Carousel from operating correctly. Objects are now added to the correct schema regardless of the account running the script. Bug 10254 | Fixed an issue where Facebook page searches were incorrectly sorted by page category making it difficult to find the desired page in the search results. Search results are now correctly sorted by relevance. Bug 10262 | Text outline is now disabled by default for new templates. Bug 10263 | Fixed an issue with Remote Data Adapter (RDA) that was preventing picture blocks from being created or modified using UpdatePage and CreatePage commands.

Bug 10214 | We saw an issue where RSS feeds containing multiple line breaks would... break. Being the type of people who don't like it when things break, we fixed it. Bug 10207 | We were being a little too pushy with our check to make sure RabbitMQ was installed. Sorry about that, we'll give you some space. Bug 10208 | The installer is now more considerate and politely asks you if you're sure you want to quit before exiting. Bug 10209 | Sometimes we couldn't see images in Facebook bulletins, making for some odd conversation around invisible things. We tracked down the issue and placed an agent in charge of making sure it doesn't happen again. Bug 10210 | At first we thought The Cheat was throwing a lightswitch rave with our monitors. After further investigation, it turns out it was just us moving the mouse. Whoops. Bug 10211 | Want to show a web page in Carousel? Use the new webpage snapshot interface to select and crop just what you want the world to see. Bug 10212 | Ever wonder how your Carousel server is feeling? Now you can ask with the new system health check! On top of giving you a menu to check on the details of the inner system workings, we'll also pop up an error if something really goes wrong. Bug 10213 | Have a ZIP file full of images just waiting to see the world? Upload them directly in Carousel as new bulletins, we'll take care of the rest.

Bug 1777 | EDS integration with Microsoft Exchange Server| The Event Display System reads schedule information from Microsoft Exchange 2007 SP1 or 2010. This integration allows event information from Exchange calendars to populate Event Schedule bulletins in Carousel. Bug 3785 | Multiple Full Screen Alert zone subscriptions| Channels can now have multiple Full Screen Alert zones assigned to them. This allows Full Screen Alert zones with higher priority to override those with lower priority. Bug 4486 | EDS integration with CollegeNET Resource25| The Event Display System reads schedule information from CollegeNet's Resource25 event management system. This integration allows schedule information from R25 to populate Event Schedule bulletins in Carousel. Bug 4489 | RSS feed authentication| Added support for RSS feeds that require a username and password to subscribe. Bug 5432 | FullScreenAlert incompatibility with earlier Clone files| Due to the addition of multiple Full Screen Alert zone subscriptions, channels imported from Carousel 6.0.x via the Clone tool will need to have their Full Screen Alert zone subscription reassigned. Bug 5518 | WebPicture Blocks added to RDA| RDA commands sent to a WebPicture Block within a template would be returned with an error. This has been corrected, and you can now populate WebPicture Blocks with a URL. Bug 5585 | RSS feed user-agent validation issues| Some web sites require certain http headers to be present in order to server the appropriate content, like if the web browser is a mobile phone or desktop. We were not providing the proper header for the user agent causing some web sites to send us an error instead of the RSS data.

6.1.1
Bug 4711 | Improve the DateTime Overlay positioning control| Based on feedback from the forum, we added more positioning control of the date and time overlay for the players. Bug 4841 | For EDS bulletins with iCal feeds, editing one instance of a reoccurring event generates multiple events for that day| This was a deep one! So if you have an iCal feed with your calendar and you change an instance of a reoccurring event, you will get both the original event and the new event. What's worse, is that iCalendar on the Mac, Google Calendar, and the customers event management system flagged these events all different. So much for a spec! We can now identify all 3 flavors and show only the modified, correct event. Bug 5492 | Events get displayed on top of each other with certain EDS bulletins| If you have this problem you defiantly know it! All the EDS events get piled up. Well, turns out that under the hood the different 'group by' options use different templates, so if you changed the 'group by' setting of an existing EDS page it get's all messed up. So, we don't let you do that anymore! Bug 5679 | Added a 'cancel' button to the template editor screen| We added a cancel button to the template editor, it was silly that it didn't have one in the first place. Bug 5736 | For interactive bulletins, the inactivity timeout isn't reset by mouse clicks| Isn't it a bummer when you are using an interactive kiosk and it kicks you out to a default page? We thought so to! This was just a glaring oversight on our part! We mostly tested this feature with our mice, not fingers :) Bug 5760 | Enterprise installations of Carousel do not show .MP4 and .M4V files on the players| IIS serves out the content and media for Carousel players. Because of security measures in IIS, .MP4 and .M4V files were not being served to Carousel players. We now override this setting for the /Carousel application. Bug 5773 | The maximum number of pages in an RSS bulletin is increased| You probably didn't even know that a RSS bulletin will only paginate to 100 pages... In fact only one customer in the history of Carousel has ever bumped into that limit. Now, just for them it's increased to 1000 pages. Bug 5800 | Video playback sometimes gets stuck on black| The Carousel DisplayEngine will sometimes get stuck showing black at the end of a video. This is because sometimes we can not calculate the length of the video. Even with video files that have worked before it will randomly get stuck. We added a 5 minute timeout to videos that we can't get a length for, so the worst case is 5 minutes of black. This is a very rare issue. Bug 5814 | WebPage Snapshot can cause a memory leak| A case was found and fixed where the aspnet worker process can leak memory with repeated use of web page snapshots. Bug 5832 | The DisplayEngine software now gets installed on Windows 7 machines| The unified Carousel installer was not deploying the DisplayEngine components on Windows 7. Bug 5892 | EDS template will not load from a Carousel Clone file| When a channel from Carousel 6.1 is exported using the Clone tool, it can not be re-imported on a 6.1 system because of an internal serialization problem with the Clone file. This is fixed and all our bits are in order. Bug 5900 | Dwell time is always affected by word count| A user-set manual dwell time still took into account the word count and auto-pacing calculations, this has been removed so Carousel uses the exact time entered by the user. Bug 5905 | Corrected an internal error with EDS when it tried to load an invalid file| This error only occurred when Tightrope Creative channels were not made correctly, this case is now handled better in Carousel. Bug 5906 | Corrupt RSS feeds can cause Carousel to run slow.| Corrupt RSS feeds can cause the Carousel service to slow to a crawl because it works so hard trying to figure out the bad RSS feed. We have changed it so Carousel will only work on decoding a feed for 90 seconds before giving up and moving to the next dynamic bulletin. This problem will cause slow CableDisplay updates, and non-rendering of RSS and EDS bulletins. Bug 5937 | Notifications for bulletins edited by users who require authorization we not being sent to administrators| When a bulletin that had been approved by an administrator was edited by the user, the notification message was not re-emailed to the administrator telling them that a bulletin was waiting to be approved.

Bug 3118 | LiveVideo A/V can get out of sync over time| Added several enhancements to the LiveVideo playback which will improve A/V synchronization on most hardware. Bug 3122 | Background audio sometimes stops fading/resuming| Fixed an issue where entering full-screen alert mode could cause background audio to stop responding to fade up/fade down commands.

5.1.1
Bug 2906 | Service doesn't reconnect to database if connection is lost| If the database server wasn't running when the service started, the remoting connection that the DisplayEngine uses would not work until the service was restarted. It has been corrected so you no longer need to restart the service. Bug 3007 | Missing app.config setting for service database| Missing the setting for the data adapter in the service's app.config file which made it difficult to configure certain enterprise installations. Bug 3011 | Corrupt bulletins will cause service not to update cache| Corrupt bulletins that could not be loaded from disk could cause the service to stop loading data prematurely, resulting in an incomplete set of channels, zones or bulletins on the Display Engine. Bug 3033 | When using the EDSProxy DB, if any field has a null value, the page never gets rendered| EDS now compensates for data that isn't completely filled out in the proxy database. Bug 3034 | LEADTools dll is missing and/or not registered| A missing dll caused certain media types to fail on uploads. Specifically applies to Photoshop (.psd) files. Bug 3035 | Channel Import/Export tool shouldn't get released| Bug 3039 | UI and docs don't warn user about crawls in portrait mode| Bug 3040 | Database connections aren't closed when editing several bulletins in a group| Fixed a bug where database connections were being left open. Bug 2779 | Editing the dates for a group of bulletins can give misleading results| The page that allows you to edit a group of bulletins in now a bit more clear as to what it actually does. Bug 2987 | You cannot change zones in Safari| Fixed a bug which caused constant refreshing in the web browser while using Safari when changing zones.
Release Notes for Carousel
5.1.0
Bug 1291 | Bulletins have a 'Last Updated' field in the database| Greatly reduces the amount of processing needed to update dynamic bulletins. IMPORTANT NOTE: You will need to re-edit any bulletins with Web Pictures so that the database gets the "IsDynamic" field set. Otherwise the pictures won't get updated by the service. Bug 1325 | Optimized file downloading in DisplayEngine| The DisplayEngine downloads smaller files from the server first, saving the larger files for later. This is so the DisplayEngine can display content as quickly as it can, rather than waiting for larger files to finish downloading. Bug 1374 | More efficient "caching" of data in service| The Carousel service is much faster when procuring data from the database, which allows Carousel to scale to larger installations. Bug 1411 | When deleting a bunch of backgrounds, the all appear in one colum, instead of in a bunch of rows| Bug 1494 | Bulk adding of tags to Zones and Media| You can now add several tags to zones/media in a single field by separating them with a comma, rather than adding them one at a time. Bug 1503 | Carousel represents all timezones| It is now possible to assign any timezone in the world to each zone via the zone configuration screen. Bug 1515 | A zone's RSS output can be enabled or disabled| The RSS feed for zones can be disabled to prevent subscriptions to that zone. You can find this setting in the Zone Settings screen, under the "Other Zone Outputs" area. Bug 1516 | Transition Previews appear in setup menus| A small preview of the transition can be seen in the zone transitions list, and when selecting the default transition for a zone. Bug 1525 | More robust Housekeeping options| Allows users to delete bulletins in bulk by bulletin type, including Active, Stale, Saved, and Waiting bulletins. You may also specify deletion for all users, for all zones, for a particular user, or for a selected zone. Bug 1532 | DisplayEngine versions reported in WebUI| The version of each connected DisplayEngine is visible on the "Display Engine Registration" web page. Now you can quickly determine which of your players need to be updated. Bug 1540 | Bulletin and Cycle Sync Timeouts need to be system wide| Timeouts now apply to the entire system, rather than to individual zones, which effectively made them useless. Bug 1595 | Repeating bulletins now obey the proper repeat interval| Repeating bulletins will now intersperse themselves between each and every bulletin, rather than only between groups of bulletins. This works even when the repeat interval is greater than the total number of bulletins within the list. Bug 1906 | Bumper Graphic is repeating and showing none of the active bulletins| Bug 1939 | Event Display bulletins: word count is divided by zero| A division by zero error occurred when an EDS bulletin had no events listed. Bug 1962 | Media Packages are difficult to create and upload| The WebUI now contains a link where you can download an example media package. You can use this sample zip file to create your own media packages. Bug 2067 | Date and time disappears permanently when Text Outline is disabled | A small bug prevented the date/time overlay from being displayed when the text outline was turned off. You can now disable the text outline property, and the overlay will continue to be displayed. Bug 2071 | After uploading a picture and adding it to multiple zones-table updates without being saved| Bug 2114 | After editing an active bulletin the status dot turns yellow | Bug 2180 | Server channel list is breaking when the server is not up yet| Bug 2181 | Error occurred after deleting a bulletin | Bug 2184 | After creating a crawl and choosing more the systems asks to submit to other zones | Bug 2185 | Error when long crawl is created| If a crawl is made with no spaces in the text, an error was thrown as Carousel tried to truncate the string on a word boundary for displaying a preview. Now, Carousel will forcibly truncate after 100 characters if there isn't a space available. Bug 2186 | Previews of Crawl Bulletins do not contain the entire message and runs off the page| In the Bulletin List screen, crawls are now wrapped in a scroll box, so you can see the entire crawl without it destroying the page layout. Bug 2189 | Main Menu does not redraw after a new zone is added-user has clearance for all zones| Bug 2190 | Groups of RSS Crawls are allowed and only one is actually displayed | Bug 2191 | Full Screen Alerts do not display even though the zone appears to be in Alert Mode| Bug 2193 | Crawls are allowed as Full Screen Alerts| A small bug in the WebUI allowed the creation of crawl bulletins on full-screen alert zones, which isn't supported elsewhere in the software. Bug 2194 | Full Screen Alerts tab the Quick Links menu is different in appearance from other tabs| Bug 2195 | Zone list in the config menu does not order numbers properly | Zones are now sorted in a more human-friendly way Bug 2222 | Error when editing a bulletin that was moved from the stale list to the active list| Bug 2268 | Screen saver feature does not run bulletins-'Searching for the server' message at the top of the screen| Bug 2271 | After editing a bulletin from the stale list (not date) it redraws screen without the newly edited bulletin| Bug 2274 | Bulletins which expired before they were approved become inaccessible| The bulletins now become "stale," and should be available in the user's stale list. Users can then "reactivate" the bulletin, at which point it will need to be approved. Bug 2275 | After editing a zone's name it will no longer display on the public web| A bug in the WebUI was mistakenly overwriting a setting in the database, which caused the public output options to always be disabled, no matter what you've selected. Bug 2277 | Edited zone names are omitted from the zone selector| Bug 2279 | The zone selector cuts off some zones in certain browsers| Scrolling through a large list of zones in the zone selector screen would "cut off" the bottom end of the zone list in some browsers. Now, all zones are properly displayed. Bug 2298 | Create a new Carousel Framework installer| Bug 2361 | DOJ OnDeck Display| Bug 2385 | Entering in too much text in a standard bulletin throws an error| A bug in the text-resizing code would cause an error when trying to resize text beyond the smallest possible font size. In this case, we simply use the smallest size. Bug 2394 | Active bulletins get set to queued between 11:59:00 PM and midnight| Added a fix to the WebUI that correctly formats the dates when saving bulletins. Bug 2432 | RSS Crawls that are grouped together and then deleted-one still remains | Bug 2463 | Stale/Saved bulletins reappearing in groups that are still active | Saved and stale bulletins will no longer reappear when their group is edited. Bug 2516 | Clock bulletins display without fading when they are the only bulletin in a zone| the DisplayEngine is smarter about displaying clock bulletins when they are the only bulletin in a zone. They will now be displayed continuously, rather than fading up and down as the bulletin "finishes." Bug 2526 | If bulletins that need pre-approval become stale and the date is changed it does represent the waiting status| Bug 2737 | Error message when uploading an invalid image is confusing| If you upload an image file that Carousel cannot process, you are presented with a friendly message containing a list of supported file types, rather than a nasty COM error message. Bug 2755 | DisplayEngine can now span multiple monitors| A new interface exists for configuring how a DisplayEngine is shown on multiple-monitor setups. You can select which single monitor will be used, or span multiple monitors. Bug 2757 | RSS Feeds with no content should create no jpgs| If an RSS feed which previously had content eventually becomes "empty," Carousel would continue to display the previous set of content from the feed. Now, the bulletin is "skipped" from display if the feed is empty. Bug 2805 | Multiple Clock or LiveVideo bulletins can't be displayed at the same time| A race condition caused the playback of clock/live bulletins to be stopped early if more than one was being shown at the same time. We now track the bulletins correctly so they are shown in their entirety. Bug 2806 | When downloading a bulletin pkg add text to save prior to opening| Bug 2852 | Carousel 5.1 MAJOR PROBLEM!!!!!!!| Bug 2853 | Crawl zones aren't migrated properly| Some data wasn't being transfered over from older versions, causing erratic behavior on channels with crawls. The database script now correctly migrates crawl data. Bug 2859 | Weather Bulletins aren't updated regularly| Weather bulletins weren't respecting the "LastUpdated" field that was introduced in Case 1291. Bug 2863 | Dynamic pages stop udating| We were using the wrong ID number to identify dynamic bulletins, so they would never get updated during the update cycle. After changing the code to use the correct ID number, dynamic bulletins are updated as expected. Bug 2877 | Carousel 5.1 Beta3 Edit Bug| Bug 2879 | Bulletin groups not moving from "Saved" to "Active"| Activating a group of saved bulletins wouldn't always succeed, depending on the date/time settings of the group's bulletins. Now, moving the group to Active bulletins should work correctly. Bug 2882 | Removed the QuickTime and DirectX installers from the Carousel Framework installer| The Carousel Framework installer is installed on servers only, which don't need DirectX or Quicktime to be installed as they won't be running the DisplayEngine. Bug 2892 | Channel Layout sreen isn't rendered correctly| Bug 2896 | DisplayEngine reports "NOT LICENSED" if there are no channels on the system| On systems with no channels created, the DisplayEngine assumed it wasn't licensed. Now, the DisplayEngine will report that there are no channels available, which better reflects what is going on. Bug 2899 | Bulletin Order on TV & Web Output| Bug 2911 | New "Jennifer Approved" Carousel Logo in About screen| Bug 2913 | Updated the Carousel installers to add the proper database user|

5.0.4
Bug 1530 | Copying items to another user's media collection only copies the item in your own collection| A bug in the code was always passing in your user name to the copying code, rather than the user name intended recipient of the media. We now pass in the correct user name. Bug 1934 | Background audio is unstable| Revamped the inter-process communication model that controls audio playback. The new architecture should be much more stable. Bug 1977 | Alert bulletins do not play sound clips| The DisplayEngine was searching in the wrong place for Alert bulletin sound clips. Bug 2059 | Background audio(playlist) not resuming after videos| Bug 2085 | Dean Evans Pages not updateing dynamically| Bug 2102 | Video helper apps don't have Windows error reporting disabled| The video player programs should no longer leave a "This program has encountered an error and needs to close" dialog box on screen in the event of a crash. Bug 2123 | Zones aren't being added to the "All Zones" tag| Adding a zone to Carousel wasn't refreshing the "All Zones" tag list properly, so it wouldn't be included in the "All Zones" tag. Bug 2205 | TV-Input SOLO 200 (Cable input not enabled)| Bug 2215 | DisplayEngine Crashes if service hasn't yet started.| Poor error handling was causing a crash if the DisplayEngine couldn't contact the Carousel service. The DisplayEngine now correctly displays the "red bar" and runs in cached mode whenever the service is unavailable. Bug 2216 | VideoHelper crashes randomly| A particular version of the NVidia video drivers was causing sporadic crashing when playing videos. The correct driver to use is "84.21" Bug 2219 | Antenna/Cable setting doesn't work for live video input| A logic mistake in the code never allowed the TV input to tune in channels above 13. Bug 2257 | Modify DisplayEngine shortcut to have a 45sec delay before starting| Bug 2259 | Weather Bulletins can contain too much text| Weather Bulletins never allowed you to restrict the amount of weather data to display in the "outlook" section, which could lead to text that was so small as to be unreadable. You can now specify the amount of outlook data to display. Bug 2260 | Double-clicking too fast on the DisplayEngine can launch multiple instances| A timing issue caused the DisplayEngine to not "clean up" extra instances of the application, leading to strange behavior as the DisplayEngines "fight" between themselves. Now, the "last" DisplayEngine will win, and terminate any extraneous processes. Bug 2281 | Empty template list isn't very user-friendly| If you didn't have any templates installed on a zone, you were greeted with a blank screen whenever you wanted to create a new bulletin. Now, a message informs you that there are no templates, and gives a suggestion on how to add some. Bug 2315 | Event Display bulletins don't update| When there was no schedule for event display bulletins, they would be automatically set to update again on 12/31/9999, which effectively caused them to never update again. They now update every 15 minutes, even if there is no new schedule. Bug 2331 | Deleting copied media could delete too many items| If you had copied media items across "My" and "Zone" media sections, deleting the item in the "My" section would confirm deleting the item for "My" sections, but would delete any "Zone" items without checking, and vice versa. Now, deleting "My" media will only delete "My" items, and deleting "Zone" media will only delete "Zone items.

5.0.5
Bug 2356 | Bulletin notification email is sent too many times| Bug 2396 | Caption data not saved in weather crawl bulletins.| The web interface was "forgetting" to reload the caption for weather crawl bulletins. Bug 2412 | Disable transitions on VIA hardware| Force cross-fade transition on minimal VIA/S3 graphics hardware. Bug 2413 | Simple graphics manager crashes with "Object disposed exception"| Certain playback hardware caused the error in the simple graphics manager. Bug 2415 | Installers throw an Adobe Flash error| Installers have been updated to include the latest version of Flash. Bug 2459 | Poorly quoted strings cause error to be thrown when deleting media| Fixed code so that media is properly deleted. Bug 2467 | EDS doesn't update on a regular schedule| EDS bulletins now update their content every 15 minutes, in addition to every time an event "expires." Bug 2472 | Editing Groups in Carousel| Bug 2664 | UI lets you delete a crawl zone that is still referenced by a channel| You can no longer delete a crawl zone that is "in use" by a channel. Previously, erratic display behavior would occur if the crawl zone was deleted. Bug 2673 | Flash bulletins can erroneously accept video files| The web ui no longer lets you upload video files as a Flash bulletin. Files ending in ".swf" are the only format accepted by the Flash bulletin. Bug 2754 | gfx manager not support GeForce 7100| Bug 2758 | SimpleGraphicsManager has poor locking| Strange deadlocking could sometimes occur in the simple graphics manager. Locking has been improved to prevent deadlocks. Bug 2759 | SimpleGraphicsManager does not obey monitor offset| Simply put, the simple graphics manager never did monitor offset correctly. This has been resolved, and you can offset the DisplayEngine in simple mode as expected. Bug 2770 | Templates made with missing fonts are rendered poorly| If a template was created with a font that no longer exists on the server, the text would be rendered with a default font and get clipped, resulting in missing text. Now, the default font is still used, however the text is resized correctly to avoid clipping. Bug 2827 | Background audio (still) doesn't fade up/down after several minutes/hours/cycles| Poor multi-threading code would sometimes cause the DisplayEngine to "forget" what background audio it should or shouldn't be playing. Bug 2828 | AudioHelper becomes erratic if DisplayEngine quits unexpectedly | When communication between the AudioHelper and the DisplayEngine was unexpectedly severed, the Helper would become unresponsive. The Helper now detects the communication loss, and exits cleanly. Bug 2837 | Overlay doesn't resize when changing font sizes| Overlay now "poofs" out and back in with the new font size.

Bug 1441 | No Select all/none icon for PowerPoint slide selection| Added select all/none to the Powerpoint slide thumbnail selection screen. Bug 1492 | Browse button is clipped off | Several upload pages were fixed so that the "Browse..." button would no longer be cut off. Bug 1502 | Zone TagSelector UI is badly rendered| The slide out selector for using the tag-style selection of zones has been changed to use the modal dialog instead. It is now intuitive, quicker and looks nicer. Bug 1505 | Modal configuration screens should resize to fit the browser window| The size of the configuration and preview modal dialog screens have been increased in size. This allows you to do more work with less scrolling. If you are on a small monitor, they will still squish to fit inside the browser window. Bug 1506 | DateTime overlay has strange "Show On" setting | The "Show On" option for the overlay text has been removed, since the "bumper graphic" doesn't make sense when there are multiple zones. The overlay is either completely enabled or disabled. Bug 1507 | Zone Bumper Graphic setup is in a strange spot| Bug 1571 | Misspelled description of 'Delete all stale bulletins' | Fixed spelling errors in the text on the housekeeping screen. Bug 1592 | Uploaded & Dynamic menus, description of menu items are not contained in pop-out boxes| Bug 1602 | Channels Configuration menu should be Channel Configuration| Fixed error in text, "Channels Configuration" has been changed to read "Channel Configuration". Bug 1624 | Long zone names don't behave well in the Channel Layout screen| Long zone names are truncated in the channel layout screen and provide tooltips to see the full name. Incredibly long names would wreck the interface by overlapping other elements before. Bug 1627 | DirectoryNotFoundException (Slideshow.aspx.cs:Page_Load:132) V5.0.0.203| Bug 1629 | IOException (MediaManagement.cs:DeleteDirectory:628) V5.0.0.203| Bug 1682 | DisplayEngine startup hanging on Solo 200| A delay has been added before running the DisplayEngine after system startup on solo machines. 5.0.2
Bug 1720 | Support for the WinTV USB device for tv input| - Bug 1838 | When copying bulletins to multiple zones, the affected zones are not accurately represented| A message is now displayed stating the number of zones to which the bulletin (or group) was copied. Bug 1851 | User gets bumped out to login screen when trying to manage bulletins-they have clearance| Bug 1856 | Group names revert to the original name after a bulletin in the group is edited| A group name is generated for new groups only. Existing group names are left untouched. Bug 1858 | Error when accessing background audio list through System Information page| Accessing the background audio list through the "system information" configuration screen wasn't setting things up properly, causing an error. Now, the only way to view the background audio list is to enter via the channel configuration pages. Bug 1864 | When viewing an Alert Bulletin the 'Type' listed is Standard bulletin instead of Alert Bulletin | Bug 1865 | A single standard zone is displayed on top of FullScreen Alert zones| If the DisplayEngine was started in Full Screen Alert mode, a stray zone was occasionally displayed on top of the full alert zone. All graphics managers now detect Full Screen Alert mode correctly. Bug 1876 | Zone Tag Selector Glitch in Safari| Safari doesn't handle certain types of links correctly. We now use links that work in all browsers. Bug 1877 | Media count can be incorrect when uploading media packages| Media packages created on Mac OS X systems can contain hidden files used by the Mac operating system, which were being counted by the uploader. Those files are now explicitly ignored, so the count should accurately reflect the uploaded content. Bug 1878 | Uploading high resolution picture files causes performance problems| All uploaded picture files are now scaled appropriately before they are saved into the system. Bug 1880 | Long picture/background/video names aren't displayed nicely when creating bulletins| The long names pushed other interface elements out of the way. Names are now truncated, and a tooltip will display the full name. Bug 1895 | Regardless of user, 'my bulletins' redraws the screen with admin's bulletins | Bug 1896 | Alert bulletins do not display after being approved | The alert cache was never getting refreshed in the service when turning on this alert bulletin because the WebUI was not checking if it was an alert bulletin correctly. Bug 1908 | Can't upload a Powerpoint file as an alert bulletin on a zone| When converting Powerpoint files into standard bulletins, the bulletins weren't inheriting the correct standard/alert type. Bug 1914 | An invalid color caused ArgumentOutOfRange exceptions in the channel layout screen| We were specifically excluding a particular color from the channel layout screen, but our random color picker would still occasionally choose it. Bug 1920 | Add new address to manual| We're now in Suite 1B! Movin' on up! Bug 1935 | Single zone systems ask to copy bulletins to other zones| This happened when there is one standard zone, and one or more crawl zones. The zone copy screen was skipped if the number of TOTAL zones is <= 1. If you had one standard zone and one crawl zone, the total number is 2, and the screen was shown. Now, we only count zones of the same type as the one you're working on. Bug 1942 | When a waiting bulletin gets moved to the saved list it automatically gets approved without clicking on Approve| Bug 1952 | Support line-in background audio on new build codes| The DisplayEngine can now turn line-in background audio on and off on the latest hardware build codes. Bug 1983 | CableDisplay bulletins lost the "Channel Name" field| The "ChannelName" placeholder on the CableDisplay creation screen was mis-labeled as "ZoneName"

Bug 1017 | Users cannot edit bulletins until they are approved| Bug 1025 | Video playback stutters| We changed some of the process priorities used for video playback. This should allow video to play back more smoothly. Bug 1037 | StringToTime function doesn't gracefully handle invalid input| Some areas of the WebUI were throwing errors when invalid date/time values were entered. We now check input more carefully. Bug 1172 | Editing a picture throws an exception| Updated picture editing code to be more stable and responsive. Bug 1198 | Resizing media causes memory leaks| Cleaned up our resorce usage when resizing media. Should resize quite a bit faster now too. Bug 1199 | Resizing media uses the database instead of the WebUI form fields| If you changed the resolution of a channel and clicked "resize media" before saving the new resoultion, it would resize to the old resolution, effectively doing nothing. Resizing now uses the new resolution even if you haven't saved it yet. Bug 1200 | Copying a group of bulletins with an apostrophe in the description causes error| Fixed a database quoting issue
Release Notes for Carousel
4.5.4
Bug 891 | Duplicate Transitions Listed| Bug 1116 | DisplayEngine instability| A bugfix from a previous release occasionally caused DisplayEngines to "reboot" themselves. This behaviour has been corrected. We've also added several other stability enhancements related to Powerpoint, audio playback, Flash, and backend data processing. Bug 1292 | Commas in EventDisplay schedule fields split the text into multiple events| Commas are now escaped before we process form data. Bug 1295 | Updating scheduled times of a stale group doesn't reactivate the group| The bulletins are now set to "queued" on updates, so the Carousel Service will automatically activate or deactivate them, as needed. Bug 1416 | Bulletins with statistics cause issues (rebooting) with the display engine| Bug 1429 | Invalid XML in an RSS feed can lock up the Carousel Service| RSS bulletins now refuse to accept invalid XML. Bug 1453 | Turning Bulletin Synchronization on can cause an IndexOutOfRange Exception| An extremely rare race condidtion caused an error to be thrown. We tightened up the concurrency checking so this shouldn't happen again. Bug 1459 | Service not compensating for time zone when disabling bulletins| In a specific circumstance relating to time zones, bulletins were being disabled (sent to "stale") earlier than expected. We've fixed the time zone logic so bulletins are "staled" as expected. Bug 1545 | Display engine ignoring page pacing| A fix from case 1116 missed an important override in the code, which would cause the DE to fly through the cycle of bulletins. Bug 1547 | Alert pages not taking priority| Bug 1548 | HTML code visable on Create.Template.aspx| We forgot to close some HTML, so strange bits of code would get strewn across certain web pages.

Now, users can only edit their own bulletins. Bug 524 | Missing Backgrounds should be removed from background lists| If a background is missing from disk, it no longer appears in the Web UI.
