Publishing a calendar from iCal into Carousel

Carousel’s EDS feature can read in iCal calendars from the internet or other calendaring systems. I have show in past posts how to get your google calendar into Carousel. In this example, I’ll show you how to publish your local iCal calendar on your Mac desktop so Carousel can display it.

Basically we need to ‘publish’ your local calendar so other systems (like Carousel) can read it in. By default, your iCal is not shared. Here’s how we do it!
Open iCal

ICalPublish

Right click on the calendar you want to share and select ‘Publish…’

There are two ways to publish the calendar. First, to Apple’s MobileMe service. This is the easiest, but it does require a MobileMe account with Apple. The second it to publish to a private server. You may need your IT department to help with this option as it requires an internal web server to work. We will be using MobileMe.

IcalPublish2.5

Remember to select the ‘Publish changes automatically’ option.

Now iCal will publish the calendar to my MobileMe account.

Once the calendar is published, iCal will give us a URL to the calendar. Remember this URL! We will use it in Carousel.

ICalPublish4

We can put the URL into Carousel

And now we get an EDS page in Carousel with our event!
