In review: Digital Signage Expo 2008
We just got back from Las Vegas and the 2008 Digital Signage Expo. This was the first year we attended this trade show. We had not is the past because it has classically been a show for retail; formerly called the Digital Retailing Expo. We had a very good show. What was nice is that Carousel was a unique product at the show. When everyone is boxing it out on features on high end effects, Carousel focuses on usability and management. This seemed to be what a lot of customers were looking for. We find that many digital signage installs fail because the systems are too hard for ordinary people to use.
Some people describe Carousel as ‘low-end’ which drives me crazy. A lot of the competition (which I don’t consider competition to Carousel) like Cools Signs, Heliux, Scala are considered ‘high-end’. This is probably because they can play multiple layers of video while flying the text in. For Carousel, these features are not desired and will probably never make it into the feature set. These add complexity that are not part of our philosophy for the product. I think Carousel is ‘high end’ in the way it makes peoples jobs easier. So here are a few pics of the booth for 2008!
