About Me

I got my start in Access TV in 1997, when I started volunteering for Tom Ringdal over at Bloomington Educational Cable Television.  I started running cameras for the local high school Football and Hockey games, concerts and school board meetings.  Over time, I developed and interest in engineering, and was eventually hired as a part time engineer.  Part of my job was managing the head end for the 6 channel, 3 location Cablecast system.  System-wide, we were operating 1 video server, and about 40 S-VHS decks at that time.

It was at about this time, mid 2003, that I started as part time tech support for Tightrope.  I initially worked three days a week at Tightrope, three days a week at BEC, and went to school full time.  When the chief engineer position became available at BEC, I stated working there full time, and took a 6 month leave from Tightrope in order to finish up school and several lingering projects at BEC.

When I came back to Tightrope I started working on the hardware side of development, Designing our turnkey systems, breakout boxes all while still working tech support full time.  Over the following years, I moved into a full time role in the development department.  I am currently still doing hardware design, as well as development on Cablecast and Carousel.

I am still working part time as chief engineer for BEC-TV.  Our Cablecast installation is now comprised of 4 video servers, 15 DVD changers and 5 S-VHS decks.  At BEC, I am spending an increasing amount of time developing custom software for all of their needs; be it a plug-in for cablecast that automatically alerts teachers when their concerts will be airing, or the cutting-edge instant replays system that is currently in development.
